Another new Gary Moore box set is on way, but this time the record company won't mixing his rock and blues albums, like they did with the one released last year (5 Album Set), when they've put together Run For Cover and After The War from the rock years, with the three blues classics, Still Got The Blues, After Hours and the great Blues For Greeny. On 25th of November Universal will release this low-budget box set, including all the five classic Gary Moore hard rock albums from the '80s, in the same expanded versions as they have been re-released them 10 years ago.
A new 3DVD set will be released in October by Eagle Vision, including three of the previously released concert films. Gary's first and last (1990/2010) Montreux Jazz Festival concerts, filmed 20 years apart, have been completed here with the great Blues For Jimi film, what was recorded in 2007. Although none of the DVDs will including new bonus features, this forthcoming release still can be a nice addition to your music collection - especially if you are just about getting to know Gary Moore's music, and now you would like to discovering some of his live performances. Live At Montreux 1990 is just the perfect start for that. After changing his musical direction to play the blues, he got the chance immediately to play at this very important festival. The rest is history now. Songs like "The Stumble", "Still Got The Blues" and "The Messiah Will Come Again" are proved that it was the right decision. At the end of the day he played six times on the legendary stage of Montreux, last time during the summer of 2010, when he returned with his rock classics and three new songs. As the original extra featues, you can also watch 7 songs from the 1997 concert, when he was on tour with the "Dark Days In Paradise" songs, mixed with his biggest blues and rock hits. Although this low-priced 3DVD set is not made for the fans, but definitely will make some new ones, and help to spread the word about Gary Moore's legacy and unforgettable talent.
A new expanded CD version of Back On The Streets will be released by Universal Music on 23rd of September. Although we have been expected something like that the double Thin Lizzy deluxe editions, with rare versions and unreleased tracks, we still can be happy with this remastered version, because it wasn't re-released in Europe/USA since the late '80s/early '90s. It was available from time to time only on the Japanese market on a much higher price than this forthcoming edition. This album was originally released in December 1978, and this time it is supplemented with the B-side of the single "Back On The Streets", a song called "Track Nine", and three versions of "Spanish Guitar". Of course there were other tracks as well, what we've hoped for that we will be able to hear in a proper remastered version, like the alternate US versions of "Don't Believe A Word" and "Parisienne Walkways", or the unreleased songs like "Road Of Pain" and "Track Ten". Not to mention the original versions of the jazzy songs and "Parisienne Walkways" recorded in the first round, during the spring of 1978. Maybe next time...
Music On Vinyl confirmed to us that they will re-release "Grinding Stone", the first Gary Moore solo album on 3rd June 2013. Although there was a couple of CD reissues during the last few years - one of them as a nice digipak edition with rare photos -, the last vinyl version has been released in 1990. So, just in time, 40 years after it's original CBS release, the fans and collectors surely will be happy with this fresh copy, produced on quality 180 gram vinyl, just like the "Bad For You Baby" album, what the Dutch record company released in 2009.
Now Gibson USA honors this certified guitar legend with the Gary Moore Les Paul Standard, a first-class Les Paul decked out to this demanding artist’s preferred specifications. Many details are reminiscent of the famed "Peter Green Les Paul", formerly played by Gary Moore and now owned by collector Melvyn Franks. From its highly flamed maple top with Lemonburst finish, to its traditional Les Paul Model headstock with signature truss-rod cover, to its mismatched amber and gold top-hat knobs, the Gary Moore Les Paul Standard offers uncompromising looks. Plug in and fire up its BurstBucker Pro humbucking pickups via Orange Drop tone caps, all anchored with a quality TonePros™ hardware, and it rips it up with a tone fit to carry the name, Gary Moore.
Henrik is a self-taught musician, a multi-instrumentalist, and a composer. He loves the Blues. Motivated by Gary Moore, he made the guitar his main instrument... - as you can read on his website. Of course he is much more than that. A very talented and open-minded musician, who started his career by playing the blues, adding other influences from jazz, funk and soul, and now he is on his way to a rockier direction - as you can already hear it on the most recent Henrik Freischlader Band album, "House In The Woods". The band has been touring with new songs since last autumn and has already played more than 50 concerts in a tight schedule, so we took the opportunity to ask Henrik some questions, during a short break before the second leg of the tour, with another 20 gigs in the UK and continental Europe. Did I forget to mention that he is a great guy with lots of love and humour, and also a member of our fan community from the early days? LOTS of reasons why you should really check out his music.
Another Gary Moore guest appearance is released on CD during the first week of December. "Warriors Of The Wasteland" was planned to release in a new version in December 1986, so Trevor Horn, the producer of Frankie Goes To Hollywood asked Gary Moore to play some guitar for this new "Attack Mix". Gary did the recording in an hour, and as he mentioned in an interview later, the next day he heard it on the radio. Originially it was produced only as a test pressing 12" single, and was available on rare bootleg releases for years. In 2001 it was finally released on an official compilation in Germany, under the title "Twelve Inches". This time it is available in two formats, in Europe on one disc, while in Japan as a double version with different artwork...
One of Gary's almost unknown guest appearances will be released again on CD after long years. It was originally recorded in 1982, but at the end of the day the album was released only in 1988, under the title "The Christmas Album". Although none of the LP or CD versions mentions Gary's name as a guest musician, Keith confirmed that he needed a guitarist and a drummer in a song, so he has asked Gary and his drummer at the time, Ian Paice. I wouldn't say that it is a must (unless if you are a collector of Gary Moore releases), but of course it can be a nice and interesting addition to your music collection, especially now in the Christmas season. The title of the album tells you everything about it really. Such a shame that as a composer, Keith only needed from Gary what we can hear on it. Keith has asked him, and he's helped. After you bought it and enjoyed the music, than placed the CD on the shelf, check out Don Airey's K2...
I've just received this great additional information related to the "Blues For Jimi" releases, that this great live material from 2007 will be released on double vinyl as well on the 24th of September. Catalogue number is EAGLP493. Looking forward to hear and see all formats!
Thanks to the Japanese Ward Records, now we can see a short preview of the forthcoming "Blues For Jimi" DVD & Blu-ray.
This long-awaited concert recording will be released on 24th September in the UK & Europe by Eagle Records/Eagle Vision.
The Japanese versions will be out a couple days earlier on the 19th. Just like the last time with "Live At Montreux 2010" in Japan there will be more versions, limited edition CD+DVD and CD+BLU-RAY sets, too, but it seems the normal CD version will be released only in Europe, and maybe later in the USA. The program is 74 minutes long, and at the moment we don't have information about any extra material. On the left you can see the artwork of the European version Blu-ray Disc. Click on it for the larger image.
Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey will tour Europe in support of his latest release “All Out” on Mascot Records. The "All Out Tour" (see dates below) will cover Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria. The band also featuring the great Darrin Mooney on drums and Laurence Cottle on bass guitar, both of them played with Gary in the past. Their program will include songs from Don's solo albums and big Whitesnake, Deep Purple classics, but Don also planning to pay his tribute to Gary on this tour...
I would like to thank You for all the support and kind words we have received before and after our first Memorial Event for Gary! It was a hard start, but on the next morning we've all felt the same, that we had to do this somehow. At the end of the day it was a special evening, with some magical moments all together with musicians and fans. Please give me some more days, soon I will find time to upload images, videos and a proper review of the last couple unforgettable days.
13th November 2009 - Budapest, Hungary - He will always be remembered!
